ROOM: TBA
INSTRUCTOR: Stefan Dieke
DESCRIPTION:
German
Longsword Demystified.
Principles, Techniques, Tricks, Psychology.
Despite all the rumours german longsword is a very intuitive fighting
style.
The class will give a general feeling for longsword fighting according
to the
Liechtenauer tradition, cover the fancy named tricks and concepts aswell
as
disspell popular misconceptions.
Topics covered will include
- the sources and related problems
- holding the sword
- guards and footwork
- the concept of 'vor' and 'nach'
- 'attack! attack!! attack!!!' ???
- 'fühlen' and the concept of 'indess'
- 'to parry or not to parry'
- 'winden' - defensive and offensive
- 'nachreisen' - defensive and offensive
- the five 'hidden cuts' or 'Meisterhäue'
- Halfsword
- how does it all work together?
As time permits we will also scratch the surface of:
- 'Ringen am Schwert'
- Armoured Combat
Obviously these are high rising plans for just three hours. So some of
the
topics can only be scratched.
Those who sign in may contact me at s.dieke@freifechter.org
if they have
special questions or interests. If it fits into the class concept and
would
be interesting to the general audience I'll try to integrate it.
Participants should bring their own long swords, wasters or sticks and
fencing
masks. Padded gloves are recommended.
Participants should know what the true and the false edge are.
