DESCRIPTION:
Besides a solid command of the fundamentals, “maturity” in fencing consists in the understanding of tempo, which Fabris defines as an opportunity to strike the opponent or at least to gain an advantage over him. In this class, we will learn the practical applications of this important premise. Put another way, we will learn how to use tempo to stay one step ahead of the opponent -- from the moment we get in guard, out of measure, to the instant we unleash our attack -- in such a way that the attack itself is safe and double hits are avoided. When this skill is understood and learned, your fencing becomes truly tough on the opponent. Every motion he makes becomes a cue for you to nullify his advantage, find his sword to either side, gain the measure (or remain in measure), and finally to strike him without him even being able to touch your sword. Equipment needed is practice sword, gloves and a fencing mask. Previous experience in Fabris, Capoferro, Giganti or Classical fencing is highly recommended. |
