| Tactical Training for Longsword | ||
|
INSTRUCTORS:
M. Sean Hayes
ROOM: TBA |
||
|
DESCRIPTION:
The most overlooked part of
a good training program is the development and use of tactical
training models. The tactical drill is the bridge between the
technical drill (the “how to”) and the fight itself. Tactical
drills teach the “when to” portion of the fight by emphasizing
the possibility of more than one outcome to an intended
action. We will examine the fundamental requirements of
employing tactical fighting skills to develop tactical
training models. Using student input of specific techniques
and situations in combination with this model, we will develop
tactical drills and work through the permutations of the
resulting tactical drill. I will also have some pre-arranged
example drills for demonstration purposes. We will focus on
safety in the drill, and employ light drills requiring minimal
protection. Students who have sparring kit *and* who are
approved by the instructor may engage in more advanced drills
using shinai-based simulators. Equipment: For light tactical drills: Fencing Mask; Gloves; Steel, Aluminum or Wood Longsword For advanced tactical drills: sparring kit of Helm, Gambeson, Joint Protection required |
