Strategic and Tactical Training for the Longsword: Staying within the Zogho Largo
INSTRUCTORS: M. Sean Hayes

ROOM: TBA
DESCRIPTION:

“…if a man who fights with sharp swords fails in a single cover he will receive a deadly blow…” - Fiore dei Liberi, Fior di Battaglia, 1410
Fiore dei Liberi gives us a clean strategic and tactical model for assessing, entering into and withdrawing from the fight, while employing minimum risk and maintaining maximum security in an uncertain and deadly situation.  We will learn to employ the stabile and pulsative poste (guard positions) of the system together with correct use of measure and tempo to take the initiative and fight from a position of control. Students who have sparring kit *and* who are approved by the instructor may engage in more advanced drills using shinai-based simulators.
Equipment:
required: Fencing Mask; Gloves; Steel, Aluminum or Wood Longsword
for light sparring: sparring kit of Helm, Gambeson, Joint Protection required (shinai-based simulators provided)
