10th Annual ISMAC
May 22nd-25th, 2009 in Detroit, Michigan
Sponsored by Detroit Metro Airport Westin Hotel
Small Sword Training in the Salle
INSTRUCTOR: Cecil Longino

ROOM: TBA
DESCRIPTION:

The students will go through a series of drills designed to develop their stance, (proper posture or position of the body) hand positions, thrusts and parries.

The instruction will proceed through a series of exercises and drills designed to have the student find their stance by understanding how to establish balance. They will learn the proper posture via proper skeletal alignment for the positioning of the body.  Then focus on how the hand positions facilitate the techniques and how the posture facilitates the offense as well as the defense.

Finally we will closely examine the salute, its meaning and historical significance. The salute in fencing is one of the most often neglected aspects of training.  Practicing the salute gives the fencer poise, precision, balance, familiarity in the proper handling of the weapon and demonstrates respect for the art and science, oneself and the adversary.
