DESCRIPTION:
This
seminar presents a dynamic skill-system geared towards the
challenges of performing safe, realistic throws and
take-downs in the
practice of historical European martial arts.
Many people, especially beginners, are hesitant about
practicing
throws because they are uncomfortable with taking falls, or
are
worried about accidentally hurting their training partners
by throwing
them.
The usual "fix" is to run students through a course in basic
breakfalling, often derived from Asian martial arts, or to
simply
"mark through" unbalancing techniques without following them
though to
their natural conclusion.
"Beyond Breakfalling" offers an alternative approach in
which both
partners take active roles in throwing and falling
techniques, through
an integrated series of exercises in counter-balancing,
skeletal
alignment and weight-sharing. Having mastered these skills,
even the
most elaborate throws and falls can be enjoyably integrated
into your
training. As an added bonus, many people find that their
general
martial arts movement skills are enhanced through the
confidence of
knowing that they can both throw and fall safely.
