Carpathian Mountain Axe
INSTRUCTORS: Ken Pfrenger
DESCRIPTION:
The walking axe commonly carried by the early highlanders of the Carpathian mountains. This weapon is know by several different names…..The Rusyns call it a sokyra, the Slovaks a valaska, the Poles a ciupaga, the Hutculs a topirecs and Hungarians a fokos.

This class will be a basic introduction to the art of using this unique weapon plus a study in movement that will easily transfered to other combat arts. Come learn the weapon of the Carpathian Robin Hood type of bandit known as Oprishki.

I will have a few loaner axes on hand but if you are able to bring a simulator that would be a great help. A three foot long stick with a small foam or leather axe head will work fine. Along with the loaners I will have a few leather axe heads that can be taped to your sticks if needed.
