Irish Martial Arts: aka Fist, Hip and Shillelagh
INSTRUCTORS: Ken Pfrenger
DESCRIPTION:
This 6 hour class will cover all three major aspects of 19th Century Irish combative arts. We will start with basic movement and concepts but by the end all students should have a pretty good grasp of a complete armed and unarmed combative method.

The big three in Irish Faction Fighting:

1. Pugilism...taught in the style of the great old time bare-knuckle boxers but put to use in the Faction Fights of the 19th Century.

2. Collar & Elbow Wrestling...played for sport but also part of the overall martial package of the Faction Fighter.

3. Cudgel play...The Faction Fighters employed several different styles of sticks but for this class we will focus on a cane sized stick.

No prior experience in needed, just a basic disregard for your own personal safety...ok, not really but realize this will be a fairly demanding class, fingers will get smashed without a doubt. It would be  helpful if you have a non-crook cane-sized stick for the class, a  fencing mask, and some gloves would not be a bad idea either. I will  have a limited number of sticks to loan out.
