Throughout
history various schools, systems and methods for
wielding the sabre in its various incarnations have
existed. From the battlefield to the dueling ground, the
sabre has been one of the most formidable weapons in
history.
This workshop
will focus on the common aspects of many sabre systems
and on the most direct methods and techniques that will
allow the participants to better comprehend the nature
of the weapon. This class is not intended to be a
technical class but rather to examine the key concepts
and principles that govern the use of this weapon.
Equipment
requirements:
Participants
must come prepared with jackets, masks, groin protectors
for men, breast protection for women, gloves for both
hands, elbow protectors, manchettes and
protection for the lead leg and knee. Heavy sabres of
the Hutton variety are preferred, Pecoraro sabres are
acceptable. Do not bring sport sabres as the lightness
of the weapon will not allow the participant to fully
appreciate the nature of the weapon.
